Does my dog need the expertise of a behaviourist?

That’s a good question! The best answer is, let’s talk about the issues you are having and I can advise you on whether your dog needs some targeted training, or whether we need to explore your dog’s emotional responses, in which case you and your dog need a behaviourist.

Life can be pretty challenging when…

…your dog is anxious, fearful, or you just can’t understand why they are behaving as they are!

How can I help?

Behavioural challenges can be stressful for everyone, including your dog. Rather than relying on quick fixes, I take an educated, empathetic approach to understand what’s really going on to create lasting change.

For dogs experiencing anxiety, reactivity, or fear-based behaviours, I work closely with you and your vet to develop a tailored behaviour modification plan (BMP) grounded in welfare, science, and compassion.

You’ll be met with understanding and without judgement, with the time and support needed to explore the challenges you’re facing and find the best way forward together.

“I had tried different people but seemed to be getting nowhere. That is how I felt like when I called Lucy but she helped me understand that my dog wasn’t being disobedient or bad, he was crying out for help.”

Behaviour Support – Let’s tackle it together

Problem behaviours are fully assessed before any behaviour modification plan (BMP) is devised. These are bespoke and designed to be as manageable as possible for owners to implement, and are kind, ethical and evidence-based. Due to the potential overlap between health and behaviour, veterinary referral is essential.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Step 1

Following your initial enquiry, you will be asked to complete a veterinary consent form and a detailed behavioural questionnaire. This questionnaire enables me to gather a thorough history and assess the situation prior to our consultation, allowing us to make the most effective use of our one-to-one time.

Step 2

With your vet referral and the completed questionnaire, we can schedule your initial consultation. This is a chance to further explore the behavioural issues and a chance to provide some initial management strategies and training. This helps to calm things down and introduce a few new skills.

Step 3

Ongoing support is available for the duration of your behavioural support via a variety of media. Within 2 weeks of the consultation you will receive your dog’s Behaviour Modification Plan (BMP). If needed, your vet can be sent a copy to ensure continuity of care.

step 4

A follow up consultation 4-8 weeks after the initial consultation will be arranged to review progress alongside updates to the BMP to modify or extend the Plan. This is vital to ensure that progress is made and that both the dog’s confidence and yours is growing.

This approach ensures a tailored, evidence-based plan that supports both you and your dog with clear, compassionate guidance.

My Fees:- Please contact me as every client is unique. I do provide Behaviour Packages which are suitable for the majority of clients.

For some mild behavioural issues, a specially tailored training package may be appropriate. A behaviour assessment will still be required initially.
